James Barbour
JAMES BARBOUR was nominated for the Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Awards for Best actor in a Musical for his portrayal of "Sydney Carton" in the Broadway Musical version of A TALE OF TWO CITIES (for which he also won the Sarasota Magazine best Actor award for the Asolo production of A TALE OF TWO CITIES prior to Broadway). He has starred on Broadway in such Tony award winning shows as Stephen Sondheim�s ASSASSINS, Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST as "The Beast," CAROUSEL as "Billy Bigelow," URINETOWN as "Officer Lockstock" and as Edward Rochester in JANE EYRE (for which he was nominated for a Drama League Award). He has also appeared in the Broadway shows of CYRANO and the national tour THE SECRET GARDEN. James also be played "Daddy Hogan" in ANNA NICOLE THE OPERA at NY City Opera/The Brooklyn Academy of Music this past September.
His television credits range from the pilots of THE DISTRICT, JUST SHOOT ME and FLASHPOINT to appearances on SEX AND THE CITY, ED, THAT�S LIFE, PBS Great Performances tribute to Oscar Hammerstein and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST IN CONCERT for CBS, the PBS mini-series AN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: JOHN AND ABIGAIL ADAMS (playing Thomas Jefferson) and the upcoming film version of A TALE OF TWO CITIES for Public Television.
Film credits include ALCHEMY on (Tribeca Film Festival and ABC Family) starring opposite Tom Cavanagh and Sarah Chalke. Adam Sandler�s EIGHT CRAZY NIGHTS, WAITING FOR LEFTY, THE TELL TALE HEART and TWINKLE TOES with Sally Kirkland.
As an author and producer, James is responsible, for creating multiple concert series, including JAMES BARBOUR THE HOLIDAY CONCERT, LOVE SONGS, BACK FROM BROADWAY/BROADWAY IN CONCERT the later in conjunction with Steinway concert artist Hershey Felder and BRING ME GIANTS. He is currently in development for multiple live venue projects including EGO THE SHOW, THE ROMANTICS. Mr. Barbour is considered one of the most sought after performers on Broadway today. He is on the �A� list of actors asked to develop new works for the industry�s leading writers and composers such as Elton John, Bernie Taupin, Frank Wildhorn, and Christopher Durang to name a few.
His voice can be heard on the recordings of A TALE OF TWO CITIES, JANE EYRE, ASSASSINS, BROADWAY IN CONCERT, THE GIFT as well as Frank Wildhorn�s studio recordings of DRACULA, TEARS FROM HEAVEN, THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO and EXCALIBUR. James has two solo CDs, A GIFT OF CHRITMAS and his recent release, BRING ME GIANTS, was voted in the top 10 by TheatreMania alongside Tony Bennett and Barbara Streisand.
As an international concert artist James has traveled the globe performing across the United States, Europe, the Caribbean and South Korea.
James is also the host of the internationally acclaimed Internet Radio show THE STAR POWER HOUR on VoiceAmerica.com reaching over 72 million listeners annually. And his production company, Laughing Dog Media, creates and controls content for the Original Entertainment Channel of VoiceAmerica.tv's new Internet television network.
