Rayshun LaMarr

Born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, actor, singer, and songwriter Rayshun LaMarr discovered his talent for singing at the young age of seven. His love for God and music led him to sing in the church. It was when his family moved to Washington D.C. that Rayshun was able to attend the acclaimed Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Upon graduation, he attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia as a vocal jazz major and minored in classical music. The extensive training he received coupled with his natural talent is remarkable.

After college, Rayshun went on to win Best Male Entertainer and Most Outstanding Vocalist in Missouri's National Singing Competition. In 2007, he released an EP titled "The Legacy Begins," which he performed at local venues on the east coast.

Life changed for Rayshun in 2012, when he was diagnosed with Lymphoma. It was his strong faith in God and the song "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey that guided him through two years of extreme medication and chemotherapy. The battle against cancer affected his hearing and voice to the point of temporary loss.

2015 was Rayshun LaMarr's comeback year. He was presented with the opportunity of performing for the wedding of Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross at Diana Ross' estate. This led to touring with the legendary Stephanie Mills, the national award-winning band Sound Connection and collaborations with Lucy Black Entertainment.

Rayshun has also landed leading roles in "Fool in Love," the story of Frankie Lymon, "Freedom's Song," "Samson the Musical," "The Wiz," "Shake Loose," "Blackberry Daze," "Ragtime," and the soon-to-hit-Broadway "Gun and Powder".

February 26, 2018, was the day Rayshun LaMarr made his television debut on the Emmy Award-winning NBC show "The Voice". LaMarr wowed the judges with his rendition of "Don't Stop Believin'" and his vocal range. His unique voice made him a top contender, getting him to the semi-finals.

In July 2020, Rayshun released the single "Time 4 Change," a call to action amidst the Black Lives Matter movement to end police brutality against people of color. "Time 4 Change" is a battle cry for freedom and justice for all citizens of the United States of America. This single is a poignant reminder of the continuous civil rights movement. The single has reached #8 on the World Music chart.

Although he is based out of Washington D.C., Rayshun has traveled nationally to perform the half-time shows for the NFL's San Francisco 49ers vs Arizona Cardinals, North Carolina Panthers vs Tennessee Titans, and even the National Anthem for his NBA home team the Washington Wizards vs Houston Rockets. He also had performances in the National Cherry Blossom Parade, First Baptist Church Christmas Special, WBAL-TV Season to Celebrate, the Global Citizen Awards, and D.C.'s Mayor Muriel Bowser's third inaugural ball.

Rayshun is preparing to release his debut album, titled "Can't Hold Back". The album is comprised of soul, pop, and R&B. Furthermore, it will reflect the joy and love that Rayshun has for all music and people, which can be heard lyrically in the lead single, also titled "Can't Hold Back".

Rayshun delivers a smooth and mature sound influenced by Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway, Ella Fitzgerald, and Otis Redding. Rayshun is a strong faith believer and would like to thank God, his family, friends, and most of all the people who love and support him through his ambitions.
